In 1900, Carl Wilhelm Friedrich Lange plotted out a village in Collinsville Township and named it Maryville in honor of his wife. The village was incorporated in the summer of 1902 and within that same year, a coal mine owned by the Donk Brothers Coal and Coke Company began operation.

Employing over 700 miners, the mine quickly became one of the biggest in the state and as mining operations grew, so did the village. Today, over 7,000 people live in Maryville, many of whom are Pestshield customers.
